The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) conducted a micro-assessment of the Environmental Intervention Fund (EIF) in Ouagadougou on November 24 and 25, 2025. According to consultant Jean Edouard Taoko, the objective of the operation was to evaluate the organization's financial management capacities and internal control systems.

The audit was based on the United Nations standard model and focused on areas such as: programme management, organisational structure and staffing, accounting policies and procedures, stocks and fixed assets, reporting, information systems, and procurement.

The consultant conducted brief interviews with key personnel in the accounting and program management departments and inspected some supporting documents related to a few sample transactions.

The results of the micro-assessment will help UN agencies to put in place appropriate assurance activities that can be applied during and after the funding period.

The consultant gave a brief presentation of his work on the evening of Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at the FIE. His interim report includes a description of all identified weaknesses in financial management and internal control, as well as recommendations for actions to be taken to address these weaknesses.

The acting Director General of the FIE, Jean Philippe OUEDRAOGO, thanked the consultant for the quality of the discussions during the micro-assessment. He stated that this assessment will allow the FIE to further improve its governance by addressing the weaknesses identified by the consultant.
