WORKING SESSION WITH A GREEN CLIMATE FUND MISSION IN BURKINA FASO
As part of its technical assistance program designed to support countries in their engagement with the Green Climate Fund (GCF), a mission from the Secretariat of the said Fund is visiting Burkina Faso from July 28 to 30, 2025.
The mission held a working session with the Environmental Intervention Fund (FIE) on the evening of Wednesday, July 30, 2025, in Ouagadougou. At the start of the working session, the Director General of the FIE, Delwendé Davy NANEMA, thanked the delegation while stating that its presence is a good opportunity for the FIE to present its specific concerns as a newly accredited entity. He expressed the FIE's willingness to learn from the delegation in order to be more experienced in mobilizing resources for the benefit of Burkina Faso.
The Designated National Authority of the Green Climate Fund in Burkina Faso, Nebyida Lamech KABORE noted that the objective of the delegation is to meet with the FIE to see what post-accreditation obstacles there are, in order to facilitate the implementation of activities.
The working session with the delegation focused on the Direct Access Entity (DAE) readiness window , the post-accreditation conditions of the FIE as a national Direct Access Entity with the GCF and the project pipeline.
The session also provided an opportunity to discuss the country's portfolio with accredited entities in Burkina Faso, including project stakeholders, and to strengthen the FIE's capacity in programming and implementing activities financed by the Green Climate Fund.
On this occasion, the FIE presented the post-accreditation action plan which was developed to support the implementation of the activities.
This mission , composed of Ibrahima BAMABA, Marileth ENRIQUEZ and Olade BALO, aims to support the Designated National Authority in removing current obstacles, responding to the country's priority needs and advancing national programming, particularly through the Readiness program .
The mission provided an opportunity to collaborate with the FIE to help it prepare the necessary documents to meet the requirements and improve its programming capacity through the Readiness window for direct access entities.
Ibrahima BAMBA, a member of the delegation, emphasized that working with the FIE was a major objective of the mission. He congratulated the FIE on its accreditation with the GCF, making it one of the 32 accredited entities in Africa. The mission, which aims to support the FIE in its accreditation process, presented tools that can facilitate the implementation of its activities.
As a reminder, in February 2025, the first national direct access entity was accredited by the Green Climate Fund in Burkina Faso. This is the Environmental Intervention Fund (FIE), with some post-accreditation conditions to be met.
While thanking the mission for the fruitful information received, the Director General of the FIE requested its support and mentoring in order to enable his structure to achieve the objectives set with accreditation as a national entity with direct access to the Green Climate Fund.
